Project description

Asset maintenance and ride quality, along with pavement strengtheing for heavy vehicles are the contributing factors for the inclusion of this road into the R2R program. the existing pavement is in poor condition from heavy vehicles traffic and requires continual maintenence repairs. Works will include the full pavement rehabilitation works along the length of the road, subgrade stabilisation where required. works will be completed with a 2 coat bitumen seal to 8m width and linemarked.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
