Project description

Road Width and Asset Maintenance are the two main contribution factors to the inclusion of this road in the R2R program. the pavement is in poor condition and rides rough, with the width of the road being also narrow for the amount of traffic. repair works are constantly required on edge breaks and general pavement and sealed surface repairs.

Works will include full pavement rehabilitation with minor pavement widening, subgrade stabilisation where required. works will be completed with a 2 coat bitumen seal.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
