Project description

The unsealed road formation is losing shape and gravel sheeting is worn and thinning in various locations. Roadside drainage lacks sufficient capacity for the road environment.

Reform and re-sheet the unsealed road formation, renew and upgrade the existing roadside drainage including offshoot drains, table drains and unsealed floodways. The project will be partly funded by Road Project Grant funding administered by Main Roads WA.

Total cost of proposed project is $750,000

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
