Project description

South Road is one of the busiest roads on the island and serves as a key route to several major tourist attractions. This section is currently unsealed (gravel) and, due to heavy traffic movements, frequently develops potholes and surface defects. It requires ongoing maintenance and is currently part of Council’s regular maintenance grading and gravel re-sheeting programs.

Council intends to progressively upgrade this road by sealing at least 0.5 to 1 km every two years, starting with this section, to improve safety, reduce maintenance demand, and support growing traffic from tourism and local industries.
