Project description

Annual inspection revealed significant deterioration of timber girders, resulting in structural weakness. A 10-tonne load limit had to be imposed, restricting access for heavy vehicles and impacting Rutile and Sand Mines operations.

Replaced 4 timber girders and carried out associated maintenance works, bringing the bridge back to specification. The 10-tonne load limit was removed, restoring normal operations. These works have extended the bridge’s service life by approximately 10 years. Bridge upgrade works (Out of total project cost $136,666, King Island Council allocation is $69,986 and cost to RTR is $66,680)

Total cost of proposed project is $136,666
