Project description

Sub-standard road surface and subject to storm water pooling. Typical grain route and school bus route with increased tourist and farm access requirements.

Widen and improve both vertical and horizontal sight distances. Road to be re-sheeted with quarry rubble to improve road surface. General Council revenue to be utilised to fund project works in addition to a portion of 25/26 RTR allocation.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
