Project description

Due to the existing topography and orientation of Speedway Road, there is a sharp s-bend in the road. This along with the roadside vegetation partially obscures sight lines to the west for vehicles travelling along Speedway Road from the north. Realignment of the roads as per road safety audit report recommendation, provide additional delineation on Speedway Road west to safely negotiate the curve in the road, such as centre line, edge line and roadside delineation markers as well as reduce the approach speed on Speedway Road west on approach to the curve.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
