Project description

Accelerated deterioration of the road pavement (unbound sub-base) and wearing surface (2-coat seal) due to prolonged subgrade/sub-base saturation and water ingress during repeated seasonal Monsoon and Flooding conditions.

Reconstruct and upgrade to improve the flood resilience of the abovementioned section of Chapman Rd. Council will achieve this by stabilising the damaged section of pavement and resealing the wearing surface. This process improves the rigidity of the structural layer of pavement, achieving a more dense matrix which reduces water penetration that causes weakening and road damage. A total area of 577m2 is required to be rectified. This process involves: 1. Engagement of a suitably qualified Pavement Engineer for the development of a site-specific cement/lime stabilising compound as well as pavement and seal design - including geotechnical testing of the existing insitu sub-base material. 2. Procurement of a skilled pavement stabilisation and sealing Contractor 3. Removal of the damaged seal material 4. Incorperation of the cement/lime compound with the existing sub-base unbound gravel material (to 200mm depth) 5. Compaction and trimming of the sub-base layer 6. Reseal using bitumenous emulsion, seal and a 10mm/14mm gravel blend (full road width) Chapman Rd is designated as an high value asset as it is part of the Primary Access route (per NWQRRTG and DTMR) for essential services, supplies and emergency access. This makes the project an essential undertaking for the benefit of the entire community.
