Project description

Deterioration of basecourse due to sub surface water and high clay content causes issues such as rutting, potholes and drainage issues. Slippery surface has road safety implications.

Removal of sub-standard base materials and reconstruction using cement stabilisation. Reconstruction of gravel surface. Balance of project costs being provided by Shire.

Total cost of proposed project is $65,000

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
