Project description

Gravel re-sheet widen existing road from 5.3 m / 6 m to 8 m and address drainage issues. Install an additional 2 culverts and widen existing culverts.

Gravel re-sheeting of the existing gravel road to restore pavement strength, improve ride quality, and extend the service life of the asset. As part of the re-sheeting, the road formation will be reshaped to achieve a consistent crossfall, improve surface drainage, and reduce potholing and rutting. The vertical alignment over the existing steep crest will be modified where practicable to lessen the grade and improve driver comfort and vehicle control. To enhance drainage and road safety, existing culverts will be extended to suit the widened formation and an additional two sets of culverts will be installed at identified low points to improve runoff capacity and reduce water ponding on and adjacent to the road. Minor realignments and earthworks will be undertaken to improve line of sight on approach to the crest and any substandard curves, thereby increasing forward visibility for road users. Collectively, these works will improve drainage performance, road geometry, and overall safety for all vehicles using the route.
