Project description

Insufficient pavement strength, poor drainage, safety risks due to narrow carriageways and limited shoulders increase crash risks, and inadequate capacity for heavy vehicles. Reconstruction of existing road from Type 4 to Type 6. Pruning vegetation. Recondition & widen shoulder from 8 m to 10 m. Basecourse layer, wet mix and 2% cement stabilisation, balance, compact & trim. Installation of Primer seal – 8000 m2. Installation of two coats hot seal C170, using 14/10 aggregate – 8000 m2. Extend existing drainage culvert & install precast headwalls at SLK 2.42 Install guideposts & signage.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
