Project description

The project duplicated 30.9km of the 47.3km between Maffra Road, Traralgon and Reeve Street, Sale. The project constructed two additional lanes to provide a four lane, dual carriageway with a central median, installed new roundabouts and safety barriers, and upgraded and signalised existing bridges and intersections. The project was delivered in nine stages:

Benefits

The project has increased capacity, reduced transit times and improved traffic flow and safety for the 7,900 to 17,300 vehicles that are estimated to use the Princes Highway between Traralgon and Sale each day.

Funding

The estimated cost of the project was $260 million. The Australian Government contributed $210 million and the Victorian Government $50 million.

Timetable

Construction commenced on 3 February 2010 and was completed on 18 December 2018.

Windsor Road - 059525-15SA-RTR

Sheeted surface is worn and sub course is exposed, surface is uneven and vehicles can not travel at posted speed with saftey and comfort.Resheet the surface and rectify sub course damage were required.Total cost of proposed project is $58,000

Old Dublin Road - 059526-15SA-RTR

Sheeted surface has reached end of service life and requires renewal to prevent sub course damage and ensure safe vehicle transport at posted speed limit.Resheet the surface and rectify where needed sub course damage.Total cost of proposed project is $56,400

Sedan Dip Road - 059527-15QLD-RTR

This Section of Sedan Dip Road is 3km of 6m wide unsealed black soil road. As Sedan Dip Road is an arterial rural road linking McKinlay and Cloncurry Shires, and is subject to heavy stock movements and tourist traffic. This black soil road consistently requires work to address corrugations and during the wet season is subject to washouts and boggy conditions resulting in unsealed sections often being impassable for at least 2 weeks at a time. This segment of road requires sealing to provide all-weather access to the travelling public.Form and seal 3km of 6m wide unsealed black soil road. The starting point for the 3km section of works on Sedan Dip Road to be 29.5km from the Link Road intersection with Sedan Dip Road. Works also to include re-instatement of shoulders, road markers and signage.Total cost of proposed project is $800,000

SAVAS Street, Rostrevor - 059528-15SA-RTR

To address the structural integrity of the road pavement due to soil movement from very reactive soil and there are some drainage concerns. This road has a severe environmental deformation and cracking with moderate load induce cracking. Surface texture has a severe defect. Council's Pavement Management System has indicated that this road is warranted for total road reconstruction.The work will involve a full road reconstruction by total excavation of road base and replacement with a deeper granular pavement to ensure the structure and integrity of the road from possible future soil movement. These work will involve replacing existing kerbs, driveway, traffic control and improving the drainage system. The road pavement being treated is 485m in length and 8m in width.Total cost of proposed project is $363,550

CORONATION Avenue, Campbelltown - 059529-15SA-RTR

To address the structural integrity of the road pavement due to soil movement from very reactive soil and there are some drainage concerns.
