Project description

This is one of the 20 projects being delivered as part of the Australian Government's $508 million commitment to the Warrego Highway Upgrade Program.

The project involved widening and strengthening works, including the construction of three overtaking lanes, on the Warrego Highway between Brigalow and Chinchilla.

Benefits

The project has:

  • Improved safety on this section of the Warrego Highway by widening the seal to 11 metres and improving the rideability, reducing the risk of accidents involving multi-combination vehicles
  • Increased transport efficiency and productivity to support economic growth by reducing travel times and ensuring the highway is of a standard that supports sustainable growth
  • Improved travel time reliability
  • Increased opportunities and access to employment by providing a safe, efficient and reliable route to support the diverse needs of local, regional and tourist traffic

Funding

The Australian Government committed to provide 80 per cent up to $31.68 million towards the estimated $39.6 million cost of the project, in partnership with the Queensland Government.

As the project was delivered under budget for $33.5 million, the final Australian Government contribution is $26.8 million.

Timetable

Construction commenced in October 2015 and was completed in May 2017.
