The project widened the existing Midland Highway to provide alternating 2 + 1 lane arrangements between Tunbridge Tier Road and Mona Vale Road. It also improved the horizontal and vertical alignment of the highway and provided an upgrade of the Mona Vale Road junction.
The upgrade of the Midland Highway (White Lagoon to Mona Vale Road) will deliver significant safety benefits, in particular, reducing the incidence of head-on crashes.
The upgrade will also improve capacity and reliability for transport operations.
The Australian Government contributed $17.1 million to this project with the Tasmanian Government contributing $4.3 million.
Scoping of the project commenced in March 2015 and was completed in mid 2015. Construction commenced in February 2016 and was completed in December 2017.
