Project description

The project upgraded a 10km section of the Midland Highway between Kempton and Melton Mowbray in two stages. Stage 1 upgraded a 4.4km section from north of Kempton to Melton Mowbray. Stage 2 upgraded the 5.7km section from north of Kempton to south of Kempton including the junctions and access roads to Kempton.

Benefits

The upgrade of the Midland Highway (Kempton to Melton Mowbray) will deliver significant safety benefits, in particular, a reduction in the incidence of head-on crashes.

The project will achieve a minimum 3 star AusRAP rating on this section of the Midland Highway.

Funding

The Australian Government committed $9,433,486 to Stage 2 of this project with the Tasmanian Government contributing $2,358,372.

Timetable

Construction on Stage 2 commenced in June 2016 and was completed in May 2017.
