The project upgraded approximately 7km of the Midland Highway from Eddington Road, Mangalore to the Pontville Roundabout at Brighton Road, Bagdad. The completed project included the installation of flexible safety barriers, construction of a new acceleration lane, widening of existing shoulders and new turning facilities and local service roads.
The project will achieve a minimum 3 Star AusRAP Safety Rating on this section of the Midland Highway. The project will improve safety, capacity and overtaking opportunities.
The Australian Government has committed up to $24,326,155 to this project with the Tasmanian Government contributing up to $2,702,906.
Construction commenced in February 2018 and was completed in July 2019.
