Project description

This project replaced the existing roundabout and the Lanyon Drive / Tompsitt Drive intersection with traffic lights to reduce congestion.

Additional works included:

  • Increase of left turn lanes from Tompsitt Drive to Lanyon Drive
  • Increase of right turn lanes from Lanyon Drive to Tompsitt Drive
  • Signalised pedestrian crossings across both Lanyon Drive and Tompsitt Drive
  • Retention of the existing left slip lane from Lanyon Drive to Tompsitt Drive

Benefits

The project has improved efficiency and safety.  It has increased traffic capacity, reduced intersection delays, alleviated congestion and improved safety by minimising the risk of motorists making poor gap selections at the intersection.

Funding

The total project cost was $10.0 million. The Australian Government contribution was $5.0 million.

Timetable

Construction commenced mid 2018 and was completed mid 2019.
