Project description

The section of the Kennedy Developmental Road between the Lynd and Hughenden is locally known as the Hann Highway. The Hann Highway is a partially sealed road with intra-regional access.

The scope of works for this project includes sealing approximately 42 kilometres of unsealed sections on the Hann Highway.

This project is one of two packages of works on the Kennedy Developmental Road funded under the Northern Australia Roads Program.

Benefits

This project will improve productivity, resilience and safety on the Hann Highway. Other benefits include:

improved travel reliability by increasing flood immunity throughout the corridor by up to five days per annum on average
improved road safety by providing a sealed road surface of 8 metre width
improved reliability and efficiency of freight movements
reduced whole-of-life asset management costs by sealing unsealed sections that incur regular damage due to wet season effects

Funding

The Australian Government committed $38.24 million towards this $47.87 million project.

Timetable

Construction commenced in July 2017 and was completed in April 2020.

The sealed road surface has reached the end of its economic life and has significant surface failures consisting of cracking and potholing.Reseal approximately 1 km of sealed road - 16,400 square metres.

Elizabeth Crescent, Cobar - 060418-15NSW-RTR

The sealed road surface has reached the end of its economic life with significant cracking and potholing.Reseal approximately 760 metres of sealed road - 7,000 square metres

Myocum Road (Rural) - 060419-15NSW-RTR

Reconstruct failed pavement and failed wearing surface. Current state of road contains large areas of uneven patwork of pothole repairs.Current proposal is to incorporate a 250mm gravel pavement overly to existing road. Replacement of exisiting stormwater drains.Total cost of proposed project is $551,254

Malpas Trenton Road - 060423-15QLD-RTR

Existing sandy section is very loose when dry and also the road cannot be used after 20 millilitres of rain.Supply and place gravel pavement to improve access during the dry and wet seasons.

Julia Creek Taldora Road (Rural Road). - 060424-15QLD-RTR

Section is sand and black soil which creates soft unsafe conditions in dry weather and the road cannot be used after 20 millilitres of rain.Supply and place gravel pavement to improve access during dry and wet seasons.Total cost of proposed project is $500,000

Nelia Bunda Road (Rural Road) - 060425-15QLD-RTR

Ageing bitumen seal and loss of cover aggregate results in potholes and pavement failures. A reseal is required to protect the pavement and extend the asset life.Bitumen reseal.

The costs of road maintenance are increasing due to the poor quality of the existing road pavement being largely black soil. The road surface is very loose in dry weather and the road can not be used after 20 millilitres of rain.Supply and place gravel pavement and 2 coat bitumen seal.Total cost of proposed project is $400,000
