Project description

The project will convert the emergency stopping lane between Canning Highway and the Narrows Bridge into a full time running lane providing an additional traffic lane. It will also install new technologies to control the freeway traffic flow including: coordinated ramp signals and Lane Use Management Systems, construction of emergency stopping bays, and overhead gantries.

Additional funding was required to undertake remedial asphalt works and drainage on the existing alignment and install new barriers.

The project is expected to reduce congestion, manage incidents, and provide situational awareness updates to the Traffic Operations Centre.

Funding

The Australian Government has committed $51.3 million towards the project.

The project started in January 2019 and was completed in August 2020.
