Project description

The project consists of constructing grade separations at two at-grade freight/passenger rail junctions, the removal of four level road-rail crossings, and associated works in and near the Adelaide inner suburbs of Bowden and Goodwood; as well as reconstruction of the Keswick Station and modifications to the Outer Harbour train line.

Benefits

The project is one of the key components in the development of a national freight rail network. The project will improve efficiency on the strategically important Melbourne to Perth and Melbourne to Adelaide rail corridors; remove capacity bottlenecks at Torrens and Goodwood Junctions; and enable 1,800 metre trains to operate through Adelaide without a severe negative impact on the arterial road network.

Funding

The Australian Government is funding on a 50:48 ratio in conjunction with the SA Government.

Timetable

The project commenced construction in early 2017 and is due for completion late 2026.
