Project description

Last upgraded nearly 20 years ago, the existing urban design of the Somerset CBD no longer reflects the changing needs of the community. The main objectives of this project is to improve the amenity and safety for motorists, service vehicles and pedestrians alike and to make the town centre a more appealing destination for visitors in aid of improved regional economic development outcomes.

Full reconstruction of this section of road. Works will include renewal of the road base and resealing, installation of traffic calming measures, upgrades to footpaths and kerbing on both sides and drainage upgrades where required.

Osmington Road - 059307-15WA-RTR

The current bitumen sealed road surface is old and in a degraded state, it has cracks, the edges are breaking and signs of extreme wear on the running surface (continuation of project id 053427-14WA-RTR).Reseal the full width of the road and repair of the gravel shoulders.

The bridge has been assessed as requiring structural treatment to support contemporary truck loads. The bridge is on a timber route and is narrow.Replace the bridge with a triple cell culvert at a wider carriageway width to match the rest of this road in this area.

Broughton Rd (Rural Road) - 059311-15VIC-RTR

Church Street, Mudgee - 059313-15NSW-RTR

A pavement rehabilitation project was completed in 2014/15 where a primer seal was used.This year a final seal will be placed on the primer seal.

Kellett Drive, Mudgee - 059314-15NSW-RTR

The pavement has failed in several locations, particularly along the kerblines. Utility and service crossings have previously been reinstated poorly and have settled adding to the poor ride quality.It is proposed to undertake a series of heavy patches, remixing and modifying the existing pavement to repair the failed sections.

Lewis Street, Mudgee - 059316-15NSW-RTR

Lewis Street is an alternative heavy vehicle route. The intersection has two pedestrian crossings and is a controlled school crossing during the school start and finish times. The width of the intersection and the frequent use by school children and the wider community has raised safety concerns.Council has secured 50% funding from RMS Walking Communities program to upgrade the intersection by construction kerb blisters and pedestrian refuge islands on this intersection. This will narrow the travel lanes and provide a safer crossing point.Total cost of proposed project is $222,818
