Project description

Inala Avenue intersects with both Serviceton Avenue and Corsair Avenue to form two separate signalised T intersections that are closely located, being 100 metres apart. Inala Avenue, Serviceton Avenue and Corsair Avenue are major roads, classified within Brisbane City Plan 2014, as Arterial, Suburban and District roads respectively. These intersections perform an important role in the transport network, facilitating the movement of over 27,000 vehicles per day. The Inala/ Corsair intersection has been the site of 23 recorded accidents between 2005-2014. A significant proportion of these crashes involved motorists attempting to turn right on Inala Ave colliding with oncoming traffic. This can be attributed to inappropriate gap selection most likely due to extended delays associated with the high volumes of traffic on Inala Ave. The Inala/ Serviceton intersection has been the site of 16 accidents between 2005-2014. A number of these crashes can be attributed to the non-standard configuration of the intersection.

Inala/ Corsair – Install fully controlled right turn with arrows. Traffic analysis indicates the existing lane configuration on Inala Ave is sufficient for signal operation with the exception of the right turn lane into Corsair Ave. This will need to be lengthened to accommodate a longer queue which is a result of the introduced delay from the new signals. Inala/ Serviceton – Modify the median configuration angle and upgrade signal display (mast arm/ additional lanterns). These changes will make the intersection layout more readily identifiable and thereby improve signal compliance and pedestrian sighting.

Total cost of proposed project is $1,766,226
