Project description

This project upgraded the section of the Pacific Motorway between Eight Mile Plains and Daisy Hill including widening the motorway from six to eight lanes, ramp consolidation, managed motorways technology, extending the busway to Springwood (Park-n-ride at Rochedale), allowing bus priority south of Springwood, and better active transport connectivity between centres.

Benefits

It is expected this project will deliver the following benefits:

additional lanes and other capacity improvements to reduce congestion
shorter travel times for high volumes of freight, commuter, commercial, and tourist traffic
busway extension to improve public transport connectivity
pavement reconstruction to support increased heavy freight volumes now and into the future

Funding

The Australian Government has committed $510 million to this project.

Timetable

Construction commenced in March 2020 and completed in August 2025.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
