Project description

This project upgraded the section of the Pacific Motorway between Varsity Lakes and Tugun which includes widening the motorway from four to six lanes, a direct northbound off-ramp from the M1 to Southport – Burleigh Road, ramp upgrades with ramp controls, auxiliary lanes, pavement reconstruction works, and better active transport connectivity between centres.

Benefits

It is expected this will deliver the following benefits: additional lanes and other capacity improvements to reduce congestion shorter travel times for high volumes of freight, commuter, commercial, and tourist traffic potential busway extensions to improve public transport connectivity

Funding

The Australian Government has committed $750 million to this project.

Timetable

Construction commenced in May 2020. The upgrades progressively opened during 2025.
