The Rockhampton Ring Road project involves the construction of a new 17.4km section of the Bruce Highway, west of Rockhampton, with key linkages into the city at the Capricorn Highway, Ridgelands Road, Alexandra Street and Yeppoon Road.
The proposed scope includes:
- A new sealed highway corridor, parallel with the rail corridor
- A roadway to increase flood immunity
- A bridge crossing the Fitzroy River
- Intersection upgrades for connections to the Capricorn Highway, Ridgelands Road, Alexandra Street and Yeppoon Road
- New service roads and upgrades to locals roads
- Improvements to stormwater drainage
This project builds on the $28.4 million Australian Government commitment to the $35.5 million Rockhampton Ring Road (Plan and Preserve) project, in partnership with the Queensland Government, for scoping and development activities.
The Australian Government has committed $1.37 billion and the Queensland Government $573.4 million towards the $1.945 billion project.
Construction commenced on an early wors package n December 2022 and was completed in June 2025. Construction on the main works package commenced in August 2025 and is expected to be completed in mid 2029.
