This section of Ballendene Road consists of 7m wide bituminous surface. But both sides of the road pavement (at least 1.5m) are cracking and showing the signs of failure. The pavement requires constant repairs and reduces safety to traffic especially to the heavy vehicles including school buses. Ballendene Road will ultimately become a B-double route after widening and or strengthening all the narrower and weeker sections along the road.It is intended to widen the road formation to 8m with a 7m wide bitumen seal. The project will include erecting & removing traffic control at the site, removing & reinstating existing signs & guideposts, clearing, excavation, adding gravel, reconstructing the tabledrains on both sides to improve drainage, removing a 3000mm wide by 200mm deep section of the shoulders on both sides of the centre pavement and replacing with new gravel and compacting. There will be a significant amount of fill material in the sub base under the shoulders to achieve the required geometric design for the road. The reconstructed section will be primersealed. The centre 4000mm of existing pavement will remain unless showing signs of failure during reconstruction. On completion of the works all traffic control facilities for the work site will be removed, delineation and road signs will be reinstated.

This section of Nowlans Road was widened and primersealed in 2014. Final seal needs to be placed prior to the failure of the primerseal.It is intended to seal 14070 m2 with a 10mm sprayed bitumen seal. Site preparation will include pothole & edge patching, preparation of stockpile site for aggregates and sweeping off excessive loose materials.
