Project description

This section of road is in very poor condition and one section is only 150 milimetres above the water table during winter; no section of the road is without potholes, cracks or edge breaks. A culvert is in poor condition.

Replace the culvert with a larger diameter pipe at a higher reduced level and install headwalls. Import fill to lift the level of the road, import gravel and shape the road to the required crossfall and super-elevation with a 6 metre wide seal and a 1 metre unsealed shoulder each side. Place signs and guide posts as required.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
