Project description
The project will progress faster rail planning from Sydney to Newcastle. In 2019, the Australian and New South Wales Governments completed a strategic business case for the corridor that identified various faster rail options from incremental upgrades through to transformational investments. This project will accelerate planning and finalise the scope, cost, timing and delivery of priority faster rail projects from Sydney to Newcastle.
Benefits
The project will accelerate planning and finalise the scope, cost, timing and delivery of priority faster rail projects from Sydney to Newcastle. The project will faciliate an assessment by Infrastructure Australia and consider value sharing opportunities and possible alternative funding and financing mechanisms in partnership with the New South Wales Government.
Funding
The Australian Government has committed $15 million towards this project.
Timetable
The project is expected to commence in mid 2021 and be completed in mid 2023.
