Project description

This project will upgrade Hog Bay Road and Playford Highway to establish a main arterial route along the ‘backbone’ of Kangaroo Island. The proposed upgrades will include road widening, shoulder sealing, minor intersection improvements and installation of audio-tactile line marking. The project also includes works to improve north-south connections to the main arterial route to enhance bushfire resilience.

The project will improve:
- access to the western-most points of Kangaroo Island
- safety for all road users
- freight productivity and network connectivity.

Funding

The Australian Government is funding on an 80:20 ratio in conjunction with the SA Government.

Timetable

Construction is expected to commence in early 2023 and be completed by mid 2025.
