Currently, there is no terminal in Melbourne that is capable of accommodating the Inland Rail service offering of double-stacked 1,800-metre trains. The recommendations made by the Dr Kerry Schott AO-led review into Inland Rail, supports two new independent intermodal terminals connecting to Inland Rail will be delivered in Melbourne, one at Beveridge in Melbourne’s north and the other at Truganina in Melbourne’s west.
The National Intermodal Corporation Limited will lead the development of an independent, open access terminal at Beveridge on behalf of the Australian Government.
The Australian and Victorian governments are jointly undertaking further planning to develop a business case that will examine the Truganina terminal location and connecting Outer Metropolitan Ring (OMR) Rail South infrastructure.
Australian Government Funding: $61.8 million
The Business Case for Truganina and OMR Rail South is expected to be delivered by 2024.
