Project description

The Fig Tree Pocket Road and Kenmore Road Intersection in Fig Tree Pocket is currently priority-controlled with 'Give way' signage on Fig Tree Pocket(Southern leg) and Errogie Place is restricted to left turn movements only. The intersection accommodates approximately 21,000 vehicles and 58 pedestrians per day, experiencing significant queuing and traffic delays during the peak periods with safety issues. Numerous safety concerns with turning movements from Fig Tree Pocket Road(southern leg) due to the topography and poor alignment resulting in poor sightlines. The project objective is to improve safety and overall intersection operation for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians by installing traffic lights with dedicated right turn lanes and upgrading pedestrian and cycle facilities at the intersection.

Installing traffic signals at the intersection of Fig Tree Pocket and Kenmore Road and Errogie Place, provide a dedicated right turn pockets from Fig Tree Pocket Road into Errogie place and from Kenmore Road into Fig Tree Pocket Road, provide an additional through lane to Kenmore Road, provide an additional pocket on Fig Tree Pocket Road for left/through/right turn movement and provide pedestrian signalised crossing, improving connectivity to the bus stops.

Total cost of proposed project is $14,507,452
