Project description

The Toowoomba to Gladstone Inland Rail Extension business case is investigating the need and viability of providing a complementary Inland Rail extension to the Port of Gladstone.

The project is being led by the Queensland Government and is being developed under the Queensland Government Project Assessment Framework (PAF), which sets out three phases of business case assessment and development: 

 

1. Strategic Assessment of Service Requirements

2. Preliminary Evaluation

3. Business Case Development

 

The Toowoomba to Gladstone Inland Rail Extension project is currently in the Preliminary Evaluation phase.

Benefits

A freight rail route from Inland Rail to the Port of Gladstone will provide the opportunity to build resilience into the wider freight network.

Funding

The Australian Government has committed $10 million to the Toowoomba to Gladstone Inland Rail Extension project.

Timetable

The Australian Government is continuing to work with the Queensland Government to progress business case activities.
