Project description

The project will upgrade Kuranda Range Road between Smithfield and Kuranda.

Benefits

The project will reduce the number and duration of road closures on Kuranda Range Road, improving travel time and trip reliability for all road users, including heavy vehicles across Far North Queensland.

Funding

The Australian Government has committed $210 million and the Queensland Government $52.5 million

Timetable

Kuranda Range Road experienced numerous major landslips and road damage caused by Ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper in December 2023. The project has been delayed to allow for priority repair and recovery works to be undertaken on the Kuranda Range Road. The project is now expected to commence in mid 2027.

Safety issue in relation to traffic and issues. Additionally the pavement is approximately 30 years old and is showing signs of stress. This includes stripping and deep pavement cracking where water ingress is undermining the pavement structure.A new roundabout will be installed. This will include kerb widening, drainage modification and pavement reconstruction. the works will significantly improve both the safety and pavement integrity at this intersection.Total cost of proposed project is $750,000

The Boulevard, City of Palmerston CBD - 059762-15NT-RTR

The Current road is too small and ineffective to cater for the growing city and will be reconstructed. This work is being undertaken as part of the City Centre 30 year Master Plan Upgrade. The proposed upgrade will improve the city centre traffic management and enhance business and economic development city wide.The road is being upgraded. Including full reconstruction, realignment, widening, removal of a roundabout, indented parking and pedestrian pathways.Total cost of proposed project is $4,800,000
