Project description

Asset Management and Road Safety are the two main contributing factors for the inclusion of this road in the R2R program. The existing pavement is in poor condition and quite narrow with large drop offs. This makes it unsafe for passing vehicles or overtaking, it also creates a continuous need for edge repairs and shoulder drop offs.

Works will include a gravel overlay and insitu mixing with proposed increase to 5.5m in width. The works will be completed with a 2 coat Bitumen Seal

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
