Project description

Some sections of Mutawintji Rd are in poor condition with little to no gravel left on the road. As a result, these sections are suspectable to becoming impassable during periods of wet weather, cutting off remote communities’ access to the regional centre of Broken Hill. This project looks to address this issue by reshaping the formation and reconstructing the road with gravel. This project consists of 3.4km of the road in extremely poor condition. This will significantly reduce the length of time that communities are cut off from the regional centre. Some minor grading works have occurred at this location in the past, but a larger intervention is now needed to return the road to acceptable functionality.

The work would include the following - Reshape the formation to help build the pavement to help facilitate drainage - Gravel overlay of 150mm of DGS20 conforming to 3051 TfNSW Specification - Install table drain where required, with batter approximately 4 to 1 - Install minor floodways at required locations - Install appropriate signage (eg water level markers) - Removal of vegetation verge and batters - Pavement would 7m in width when complete

Jundah - Winton Road (rural road) - 059241-15QLD-RTR

To upgrade a 3.4 kilometre section of flat gravel road to a bitumen standard. Currently narrow and subject to low level flooding. This project will also double as an emergency landing area for The Royal Flying Docotor Service.2 kms x 10 m seal with 6 metre wide sealed aproaches x 700 metres with tapers. An array of signage to identify emergency landing area.

Yaraka - Retreat Road (Rural Road) - 059242-15QLD-RTR

Re-seal of existing pavement to maintain existing level of service.Bitumen re-seal of 6 metre surface.

Iluka Road (Rural Road) - 059243-15NSW-RTR

The road is narrow for the current and future traffic volumes and has failed over a number of sections.The proposed works will widen 310 metres of Iluka Road to a 10 metre wide formation and overlay the widened road with an average 200 mm of gravel base. The widened road will be sealed.Total cost of proposed project is $205,598
