Project description

The resealing of the sections of Range Road, between Tapanappa Road and Parawa Road, has been identified as a priority in condition modelling undertaken as part of the District Council of Yankalilla’s transport asset management process. The nature and use of Range Road and the age of the seal makes it a high priority renewal project. Over the past five years Council has been required to undertake significant patching works on failing pavements along an 800m section of road, resulting in extended period where Council has had to implement temporary traffic controls to allow for safe use of Range Road. Previous PBS Level 2A Detailed Heavy Vehicle Route Assessment undertaken by HDS as part of the South Coast Freight Corridor scoping works, identifies the requirement for shoulder construction and widening for the for the length of range Road. In accordance with PBS Guidelines a 3.1m traffic lane width and 1.2m shoulder shall be provided for roads classified for PBS L2. For Range Road, between Tappanappa and Parawa road, there are large segments with poor edge condition and severely degraded or no established road shoulders. There are also areas where the shoulder has significantly degraded such that edge break of the seal is encroaching on the travelling lanes. Shoulder establishment, pavement renewal and resealing of Range Road will ensure that these segments of road will meet PBS Level 2A requirements.

Full depth pavement reconstruction for 830m of road between Tunkalilla Road and Illawong Road. current Australian Standards. Establishment, reinstatement, and reconstruction of road shoulders from Tappanappa Road to Parawa road to provide a minimum 0.5m Sealed shoulder and 1.0m unsealed shoulder for the length of this project. Undertake minor pavement remediation though bitumen patching based on visual pavement failure assessment for the remaining 4.77km of Range Road, from Tappanappa Road to Parawa Road. Re-seal of 5.6km of Range Road from Tappanappa Road to Parawa Road with two coat spray seal. Update of line marking and review and update of advisory signage for the 5.6km of Range Road identified, to ensure that all traffic management devices meet, and signage meets current Australian Standards

Total cost of proposed project is $1,200,000
