Project description

Brisbane City Council is proposing to make improvements to the Harries Road and Old Cleveland Road intersection, in Coorparoo, to improve safety for people walking and riding and enhance driver awareness. Old Cleveland Road is classified as an arterial road, and Harries Road is classified as a neighbourhood road under the Brisbane CityPlan 2014. The Harries Road and Old Cleveland Road intersection is currently controlled by traffic signals, with an unsignalised left turn slip lane for motorists to turn left at any time from Harries Road into Old Cleveland Road. Between 2016 and 2023 there were 8 crashes recorded at the intersection, all of which resulted in medical treatment or hospitalisation. One of the 8 crashes involved a vehicle turning left from Harries Road into Old Cleveland Road and hitting a pedestrian, resulting in a fatality.

The project will improve safety for all road users by installing a raised pedestrian crossing on the Harries Road left turn slip lane at Old Cleveland Road. The raised crossing will enhance driver awareness, reduce vehicle speeds and provide a dedicated crossing for pedestrians.

Total cost of proposed project is $838,287
