Project description

Polo Flat Road is a Regional Road and it is a vital connection road that bypasses the town between Monaro Highway from Canberra to Bombala. This road is a major industrial road in the area which is being used considerably by Snowy Hydro industry as they have their Segment factory along with various other important industries on the road such as Monaro wool, H Hardware, SMRC Depot and the like. During geotechnical investigations on recent projects, it has been noted that the pavement, primarily within Carlaminda Road and the railway underpass, is nearing the end of pavement life and will require work to bring the road to a serviceable condition. The current state of the road is it has deformed which requires immediate rectification.

The work proposed on Polo Flat rd is to provide a gravel overlay to the road pavement, providing greater pavement thickness. While construction is taking place, milling, and stabilising where required, of the existing road base will also take place to provide a consistently improved pavement. The start of construction would be 20m east from Baron Street intersection and terminating at 130m east of Carlaminda Road intersection. The total length considered under this program is 1.07km.
