Project description

This project will realign the two-lane, two-way Nelson Bay Road with upgrades to intersections at the eastern (Bobs Farm) and western (Williamtown) ends as well as an upgrade to the Lemon tree Passage connection. The design will enable the duplication of the alignment in the future should funding become available.

Benefits

This project will provide:- an alternative route between Williamtown and Bobs Farm;- a safer alignment for residents, businesses and the Nelson Bay community travelling to Newcastle Airport; - improved traffic flow; and- improved pedestrian and bicycle safety.

Funding

The Australian Government are committing $137.5 million to this project, bringing the total project cost to $275 million.

Timetable

Delivery timeframes will be determined in consultation with the New South Wales Government.

Little James Street is no longer adequate for the volume of traffic, as the road is currently narrow the road suffers from edge break. There is no control over stormwater at the moment, the stormwater is scouring the edge of the road and driveways.Little James Street will be fully reconstructed and widened to 7.5m from the existing 6m and kerbed on both sides to control stormwater run off. And 10.5m wide sealed footpath will be constructed.

Ellery Road, Kingston SE - 059961-15SA-RTR

Road profile is poor,and subject to pot holing. Road is also narrow. This road is a commodity route and needs to be widened.Resheet with 250mm crushed rubble, widen to road to 6.5m and provide new profile to enable stormwater run off.Total cost of proposed project is $40,000
