Project description

Willowra Road is a primary road connecting the remote Warlpiri country (Willowra community) to regional centres and essential services, ensuring social connectivity and mobility; and emergency response. This connection is vital for accessing services such as hospitals, government agencies and commercial centre. It supports the delivery of food, fuel, medical supplies, and mail, as well as the movement of goods and services necessary for community functioning. The problem being addressed are: 1. Safety risks due to rough surface - the deteriorated and uneven road surface increase the risk of accidents and vehicle damage. 2. Localised failure and ponding - depression and low points in the road are causing water ponding, making section of the road impassable during and after rainfall. 3. Poor drainage from low road levels - the road is below the surrounding ground level in several locations, leading to inadequate drainage and water retention, which accelerates road failure and limit access. This road has been closed and impassable for 22 days and had vehicle weight restrictions of 110 days in past years.

Lift and gravel re-sheet from 49 to 56 kilometres.
