Project description

This is a significant road providing access to a Hamilton Downs Youth Camp in terms of its functional, educational, and safety including access and connectivity, support for educational programs, and safety and emergency response. This access road presents several challenges that compromise safety, reliability, and year-round usability. The road surface is rough and uneven causing discomfort for passengers particularly school and youth groups and posing safety risks for vehicle including buses. The road surface lies below the natural ground level, which results in the road acting as catchment for surface water. This condition promotes persistent water ponding, especially after rainfall, leading to soft spots and accelerating road deterioration. Drainage is inadequate, and during wet conditions, floodways become saturated and boggy, often making the road impassable. This impacts the educational program, restricts access to heritage and historic sites including emergency vehicles. Gravel resheet and installation of 3 concrete floodways.
