Project description

Pavement Widening Road shoulders are widened to improve safety by providing an escape route for drivers who veer off the main lane, reducing the risk of run-off-road accidents. Wider shoulders also offer a safer area for broken-down vehicles to stop, enable slower traffic to allow faster vehicles to pass, provide space for bicycle lanes, and protect the road's structure from erosion and water damage.

- In-situ stabilise the existing granular shoulder pavement material, to a depth of 150mm, adjacent to the existing bitumen seal edge to provide a 1.00m pavement widening on both sides of the existing carriageway. This widened pavement will then be covered by a two-coat bitumen spray-seal wearing course to achieve a new sealed carriageway width of 8.0m. - Re-grade remainder of existing granular shoulder material (both sides of road carriageway) to match into level of edge of new pavement widening.
