Project description

French Street was closed in 2019 due to the high number of pedestrians and cyclists utilising the road at all hours of the day and potential hazards created by cars driving through at speed. The current unsealed road, with disorganised parking and poor lighting at night, creates a significant risk of crashes with pedestrians and cyclists, sideswipes, rearend and head-on crashes. The design aims to transform the road into a shared space where vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians can operate safely but freely. It will have an upgraded new seal and angled on-street parking along with landscaping and paths. The design is to be reviewed to ensure, should the road be re-opened, the proposed design will not introduce any new safety risks. French Street when reopened would connect from Robinson Street in a one-way southbound direction to Banksia Drive.
