Project description

Riecks Road is a 118 km unsealed road in the far north-east of South Australia and is classified as a secondary outback road. A large portion of Riecks Road (approx. 83 km) consists of numerous undulating sandhill ridges that run predominantly at right angles to the road. Sandhills are ever-changing structures that are prone to bull dust holes and severe damage due to rain and wind erosion on the crests, that represent a serious safety hazard. This project is to cap targeted sandhills within the existing alignment with robust material and add either cement or a Polycom stabilising agent to provide stability for both light and heavy vehicle traffic.
