Project description

Range Road is a heavily trafficked gravel road that accommodates a significant volume of daily traffic, including heavy vehicles. As an unsealed road, the surface deteriorates quickly, resulting in potholes, loose gravel, dust and uneven sections. This leads to frequent maintenance requirements and creates a rough and potentially unsafe driving environment, particularly following rainfall. Sealing the road is necessary to improve safety for all users, reduce ongoing surface damage, minimise maintenance costs, and provide a smoother, more durable all-weather surface. This project has been delivered in stages since the 2020/21 financial year, with successive sections completed each year. Range Road has a total length of 23.45 km. The works involve forming and reshaping the gravel pavement, followed by cement stabilisation and the application of a two-coat, 7-metre-wide bitumen seal. In the upcoming financial year, the final 3.5 km section will be completed, resulting in the full sealing of Range Road to a 7-metre standard.
