Project description

The project involved the construction of Garramilla Boulevard, a new link between Tiger Brennan Drive and Darwin CBD, along with the completion of the duplication of Tiger Brennan Drive from Berrimah Road to the Darwin CBD. This enables commuter traffic into and out of the Darwin CBD to be distriubted more evenly, improving access and reducing traffic delays.

Benefits

This project delivered the following benefits:

  • easing of congestion and improved access to the Darwin CBD
  • consistent and reliable travel times
  • improved road infrastructure around Darwin CBD that supports business and helps in attracting tourism to Darwin

Funding

The Australian Government provided $29.5 million towards the project, with the Northern Territory Government providing $24.6 million and Darwin City Council $5 million.

Timetable

Construction commenced in June 2018. Garramilla Boulevard was opened to traffic on 14 September 2019 and the duplication of Tiger Brennan Drive Stage 3 opened to traffic on 12 October 2019. The project reached practical completion on 14 October 2019.
