Project description

The project has upgraded the Hyland Highway between Traralgon and Yarram in south-east Victoria. Works included widening lanes and shoulders, installing safety barriers and slow vehicle pull-over areas, and intersection upgrades.

Benefits

The project has improved safety and efficiency for all road users and supported the economic growth in the region.

Funding

The total cost of the project was $10 million. The Australian and Victorian governments each contributed $5 million.

Timetable

Construction commenced on 2 January 2018 and was completed in November 2022.

Kurundi Road (Tennant Creek - Rural) - 057924-15NT-RTR

The Kurundi Gorge at 51.63 kilometre with extended periods of rain, can be impassable to fuel, freight and store trucks. When accessibility through the gorge allows, high clearance 4 wheel drive vehicle have to be used to supply Epenarra station, Wutunugurra (Epenarra) community, Owairtilla (Canteen Creek) community. Environmentally, with downstream of the gorge, the water holes (including one sacred waterhole) are silting up from gravel washed off from the gravel pavement in the gorge. The sealing of the gorge will prevent further environmental damage. Kurundi Road supports pastoral proprieties, aboriginal communities and tourists with the Davenport parks. The sealing of the gorge will improve accessibility.Raise, stabilise and upgrade the unsealed section to sealed pavement.

The Kurundi Road supports pastoral properties, aboriginal communities and tourists with the Davenport parks. The crossing can be impassable to cross in the wet season for weeks; concrete floodways will improve accessibility.Construct three floodways at the proposed chainages.

Road surface is bitumen and needs resealing. the bitumen surface is undulating, cracking and pot holes occur frequently due to the age of the bitumen surface. In addition the west side of road requires installation of kerb to channel drainage off road into storm water drainage system.
