Project description

This project will install guard fences and wire rope safety barriers on the Western Freeway north of Ballarat. Upgrades will occur on both sides of the Adelaide-bound carriageway from the Midland Highway to Dowling Road, and both sides of the Melbourne-bound carriageway from Dowling Road to Lofven Street.

This section of the Western Highway is heavily trafficked, seeing a significant volume of inter-regional trips and a large number of commercial and heavy vehicles.

The upgrades also include Miners Rest Safety Improvements.

Benefits

The project is expected to improve road safety for all road users and the efficient movement of freight on the land transport network in Victoria.

Funding

The Australian Government is contributing $8 million and the Victorian Government is contributing $2 million.

Timetable

The project commenced construction in late 2022. This project has been completed as of November 2023.
