This project will deliver the detailed design and duplication of Athllon Drive, between Hindmarsh Drive and Melrose Drive, and between Sulwood Drive and Drakeford Drive.
This project will complete the full duplication of Athllon Drive, one of the main north-south arterial roads in Canberra. It will reduce congestion and improve travel times for 14,000+ vehicles that use this road per day, including rapid bus services and nearly 2,000 vehicles per hour in the peak periods. It will also improve safety and address the crash history on this road - with the number of rear-end collisions caused as a result of the congestion in the corridor.
This project will achieve the following benefits:
• reduced congestion and improved travel times,
• improved connectivity between people with jobs and services, and goods with markets,
• improved safety for all road users, and
• improved freight productivity.
The Australian Government has committed $46.67 million (rounded) to this project, with the ACT Government committing $46.67 million (rounded), bringing the total project funding commitment to $93.33 million.
The expected commencement and completion dates are to be announced.
