Project description

The Melbourne Western Suburbs Rail Upgrades - Planning project will deliver a business case to develop and prioritise options for upgrades to Melbourne’s western metropolitan railway lines. This builds on the Victorian Government’s earlier work undertaken through the Western Rail Plan – Further Planning project.

Benefits

The business case will provide delivery options that aim to increase capacity to support current and future demand in the western suburbs, improve public transport accessibility for these areas, and separate regional and metropolitan passengers in order to improve the passenger experience.

Funding

The Australian and Victorian Governments have committed $20.5 million each towards the project.

Timetable

The business case is due to be complete by early-2026.
